A Smarter Year Introduction

December 26, 2024

Welcome

Hello, and welcome to this ambitious project I’m setting myself for the year of 2025, starting January 6th. I’m Christian and I’m a Software Engineer in the UK. I love learning and playing trivia and I have found myself flagging on learning new ideas/concepts as my professional life (and personal life) have become more busy. I’m not going to list my interests, I don’t think it’s a worthwhile exercise as they change a lot and it’s boring to read. So… what is this?

The Project

I am going to publish a blog post every single day on a very wide range of topics. I’m honestly not going to go into depth on every single minutia of a topic because I won’t have time, but I want to get a more broad and generalised understanding of 365 new topics this year. I’ll do my best to make it readable for a wide audience but honestly I have no idea what I’m doing so… good luck?

The structure and process

Towards the end of 2024 I discovered an experiment by Google called NotebookLM (notebooklm.google.com). It’s honestly some pretty unbelievable stuff, I’m sure I’ll make comments on AI and LLMs throughout this year but holy smokes we are in the middle of a technological revolution… Anyway, the reason I mention this is twofold:

  1. I will be collating all my source material into a “Notebook” and will use it to help guide my learning. I will only have 24h (realistically 1 or 2h a day to write these posts so I’m going to need all the help I can get) and…
  2. NotebookLM has this absolutely wild feature in which it will create a podcast based upon all the source material it receives. I’ll be adding them to every blog post. Please PLEASE note these podcasts are AI generated.

The topics, schedule.. etc.

Every week will have a theme. I won’t paste them all here, but week one is:

Foundations of Modern Understanding

Additionally every day of the week will have a theme. These are as follows:

Monday: Quantum & Physical Sciences

  • Advanced physics
  • Cosmology
  • Theoretical science
  • Materials science

Tuesday: Technology & Future

  • Emerging technologies
  • AI and computing
  • Future predictions
  • Digital innovations

Wednesday: Art & Culture

  • Art movements
  • Cultural revolutions
  • Architecture
  • Music and performance

Thursday: Biological & Mind Sciences

  • Advanced biology
  • Neuroscience
  • Psychology
  • Evolution

Friday: History & Society

  • Historical movements
  • Lost civilizations
  • Social revolutions
  • Archaeological discoveries

Saturday: Philosophy & Mathematics

  • Advanced mathematics
  • Philosophical theories
  • Logic systems
  • Theoretical frameworks

Sunday: Synthesis & Interconnections

  • Cross-disciplinary topics
  • Integration of fields
  • Complex systems
  • Cultural-scientific connections

You may ask: “Christian, how on Earth did you decide on 365 topics with themes and make it broad enough to…” - I didn’t. I’ll be honest. ClaudeAI did. I had a lot of back and forths with that particular LLM until it gave me a really good structure and breakdown of how to setup this project.

Wait is this all going to be AI? What’s the point?

No. Okay so I’ve mentioned I use a lot of AI tools and will use them to write this blog. However, I truly believe AI is a tool. A promise I will make during this project is the blog post itself will be written, by hand, by me. I may ask an AI to fact check my work so I don’t dish out sh*t but otherwise it will be done by me, for better, for worse.

(Also otherwise what’s the point? I’m not going to learn anything if I just pump out a blog by AI. Also the project could be completed in a single day!)

Hope you enjoy!
